'Tis the Season

More spotted bowls and Jones soda later, time to interrupt the series with a little low-light (or rather too-low-light) Christmas cheer.

Switching Focus

Still from the set of pictures with the bowl and the bottle. After talking in brief about the first two, it's almost like there isn't much to say. The table has a nice pattern on it that contrasts the bowl, but I'v noticed that I didn't pick it up in any of my shots. Anyway, this time it is the foreground that spends it's time in the way of the background bowl getting all the focus.

Bottle and Bowl again

Here is another one from the bottle and bowl series, as I am now affectionately calling it because I can't remember if I gave it a name before and I am terrible at thinking up cool sounding names for things. Screen names are the worst to come up with. Everyone else shows off their creative flair with names like "IluvU2" or "BestThingEverCreatedIsMe", and I just stick with boring names like my initials or maybe my last name.

In this shot I went without the flash, which eliminated the crazy shadows of the first.

A Bowl and a Bottle

This is the first in a series of shots I'm going to post featuring a wooden bowl and a bottle of Jones soda. The Jones was delicious and worth trying, in case you were wondering.

More Spot Shadow

After a little thought, I wanted to go back and try the spot color in Picasa again. This time I think it worked out much better.

Thirsty

Playing around a little bit, I wanted to see what would happen if I tried this and what it would look like. All that I can think looking at this is, "Ribs. I had ribs for lunch, that's why I'm doing this."

Vegas baby, Vegas!

Went off to Vegas at the end of September for the birthdays of a couple of friends. While I was there I didn't spend a lot of time taking pictures, but I did manage to get this one in while I was waiting to watch the fountains at Bellagio. This is really one of the best looking buildings in the town, and the fountain show is dazzling.

Playing around with photos.

I finally got the urge to start playing around with my camera again, even if it is going to be short lived. I arranged a couple things where I like the way the dim light works in the house, and snapped a bunch with the old point and shoot. I liked the way this one came out the best.

The first shot is the unedited picture straight off the camera. I played around with some of the photo editing stuff in Picasa for the next three images. First, I warmed the color and added highlights (image 2). Then, I added a black and white fade (image 3). After a while I decided the black and white didn't work as well as I'd hoped, so on the recommendation of a friend I cooled the color again (image 4).

Overall, I don't really like the lighting and the wood floor in the original shot. I'm thinking that if I would have covered up the floor or maybe had darker wood it would have been better, but I think it's a bit distracting and takes away from the overall image.
